Magnus de Brito in his XP18. Tomas, Nigel and Richard. Freya Hoffmeister in her FREYA18. |
People RICHARD and TOMAS ÖHMAN Founders and Managing Brothers, Tomas and Richard Öhman , have always had a passion for the outdoors, the ocean and the mountains, designing and building their equipment. Avid sailors, they built their first boat at the age of 12 and 13. The brothers continued to combine their passion of designing, building and riding. They shaped their own surfboards and windsurfing boards back in the early eighties, travelling around Europe, the US and Africa riding and gliding. NIGEL FOSTER The Point 65 team was strengthened in 2004 by living paddling legend Nigel Foster. Nigel did not only bring his legacy to Point 65 but also the history of modern paddling. His international reputation is built on his designs (he has designed six sea kayaks), his numerous books and articles, his teaching, his instructional videos and DVDs, and his expeditions. Nigel Foster is an international kayak teacher and has become an icon of modern sea kayaking. Nigel is the designer behind the Point 65's Whisky 16 and Double Shot as well as the Point 65's Nigel Foster paddle and the Explorer PFD. Read more about Nigel » MAGNUS DE BRITO Magnus de Brito brought advanced marine design technology to Point 65. Magnus, one of the leading designers in Scandinavia, has headed design projects with industry giants such as Porsche, Scania Trucks, Hyundai, Intelligent Sound, Pirelli Boats, Agip Marine and many more. Already at 18 Magnus was responsible for the development of the first commercially viable wind surfing harness. His passion for kayaking and other water sports and the toys used for it has continued through his career. Magnus is the designer behind the award winning modular kayaks Apollo, Tequila!, Martini and Mercury as well as the Rum Runner SUP. But he also designs state of the art touring kayaks like the Point 65's XP18, XP18 Spyder and Freya Expedition. Read more about Magnus de Briro » FREYA HOFFMEISTER Freya is the ultimate test paddler. She takes her kayaks on expeditions like the circumnavigation of New Zealand and Australia. On August 30, 2011 she began her circumnavigation of South America from the Quilmes Yachtclub in Buenos Aires. She paddled south down the coast, rounded the Cape south of Tierra del Fuego. The infamous Cape Horn not only nearly ended the trip, her harrowing experience almost cost Freya her life. But she pulled though and ended this first leg of her 8,000 kilometres (5,000 mi) trip in Valparaíso, the main harbour just off Santiago de Chile. She then paddled north past Peru and Ecuador, crossed the equator and passed Colombia. She paddled through the Panama Canal. Then headed south past Venezuela, ending the second 8,000 km leg in Georgetown, Guyana. She started the third 8,000 km leg in September 2014. This final leg is taking her past Suriname, Brazil and Uruguay returning to where she started almost 4 years earlier, in Buenos Aires by May, 2015. Freya is paddling the Point 65 Freya Expedition which she helped design in cooperation with Point 65's designer Magnus de Brito. You can read more about Freyas circumnavigation of South America on her blog. Read more about Freya » |
